"The Secret in their Eyes" was an Argentina film. An Academy Award winner for best foreign film in 2009, it received other awards in addition. Check Wikipedia for a write up. It was really good! One of the best films I have seen in years. We watched it on a disc from Netflix, we did not stream it.

    Helen,

Wikipedia says it grossed just under $1,000,000 at the box office in Australia. Hard to believe you could make money like that. I will look for it.

My son has already seen the conclusion of Breaking Bad. It must be online somewhere.

I liked it and was steered towards two more in the same genre, "Lore" and "Polish Bride" haven't watched them yet.

I'd highly recommend a Norwegian series titled "Dag".

"The Lives of Others" is a German film that won the Academy Award for best foreign picture in 2006. It is about the Stasi's surveillance program in the early 80's in East Germany. Excellent! We watched on a disc from Netflix.

+1 on "The Killing". Watching the third season currently and parsing the last three episodes. Excellent IMHO. The rain and the pain of Seattle are palpable.

I wonder if there is a foreign version of "The Killing". I want to watch Swedish version of "The Bridge", just not a fan of watching it on my computer. Per my son I need to buy an HDMI cable or a chromecast, sigh.

I believe "The Killing" was a remake of a Danish series. I do not know if it had the same name. I have 2 more episodes of season 3. I believe in the beginning credits, the Danish title might be listed.

    The Danish title is "Forbrydelsen".

"The Devine Weapon" won the 2009 Grande Bell Award for best picture. In 1430, Korea developed the first rockets and used them as a military weapon to fend off a Ming Dynasty attack. A look at science of the era is worth checking. The representation of the era could have been better in my opinion. B plus.

I watched the whole of Broadchurch and was pretty disappointed in the ending. I felt their treatment of the villain was quite the cop-out.

"The Intouchables" is a French film based on a true story about a wealthy quadriplegic and a small time criminal he hires to care for him. They develop a life long friendship. I streamed this on Netflix. Very good.

If you like "The Killing" (three seasons available on NetFlix and another in the works) and "The Fall" (another season in the works), you might like a new series that I discovered over the weekend called "Durham County". Dark and twisted! Just what everyone wants for the holidays. This synopsis from Netflix...

This dark crime drama stars Hugh Dillon as detective Mike Sweeney, a brooding cop who moves his wife (Helene Joy) and daughters to a seemingly idyllic community, only to discover that a predatory killer -- who just might be his neighbor (Justin Louis) -- is on the loose. As he works to nab the murderer and other criminals, Mike also struggles to prevent his dark past from splitting his family apart for good

The BBC Sherlock Holmes series with Benedict Cumberbach and Martin Freeman is quite good. I have scots that send it across the pond for me.

I am currently watching a BBC Masterpiece 4 part series called "The last enemy". It also stars Benedict Cumberbach playing another smartest guy in the room role. My wife and I both like it.

Just finished watching a short 3 part miniseries called the "The Bletchley Circle". Post WWII London, 4 women who worked as "De-Coders" in the war effort get back together to solve a serial killer crime. Very good. You can stream it on Netflix.

I've just watched the first two seasons of "Luther", a british series. Very interesting! I'm waiting for the last four episodes, Sky Italia will broadcast them at the end of this month.

"Heat of the Sun" is a BBC series from 1999. Taking place in Kenya in the 1930's, there were 3 episodes in this series. This can be streamed on Netflix.

Mark, we finished Bletchley Circle last night, enjoyed it, thanks for the recommendation. I recently streamed a movie called "Lore" about a German family at the end of WWII that was good.

"Tsotsi" takes place in South Africa. It won the 2005 Academy Award for best foreign film, check Wikipedia. It can be streamed on Netflix.

"Dirty Wars" by Jeremy Scahill is up for an Academy Award this year in the best documentary category.

I am watching "MI-5" for the second go through with my son. It is a BBC production based on Great Britain's secret service.

Both can be streamed on Netflix.

"The Late Quartet" starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in a very strong role is worth a memorial look.

It's not an European mystery but it is somthing I would like to share and this thread seems to be the one to do it:

Junkyard, 6 years of work by one man, in oilpainting and an unbelievable amount of drawings. It has received many prices all around the world and the maker has just given his OK for it to be shared on the internet.

At the makers request: please watch full screen!

Another excellent! Do you a ballpark estimate of how many drawings were involved?

Yes, I found an interview with him where he said he made 25.000 drawings and 120 oil-paintings.

Just finished watching Season 2 of Bron/Broen. Great show, IMO!

Too bad we've got to wait some 2 years before Season 3 comes out...

Yep I'm also watching season 2 and I really like it. If you like HOC and you have not seen 'The West Wing' yet, you are in for a treat! That one is in my top 3 of favorite series ever! It felt like I lost a bunch of friends when I watched the last series. Have bought the box and will watch it again soon.

Stephen: do you agree to changing the thread title to 'what are you watching right now?'
