I live in Greensboro NC and tried 6 different Shell stations 2 days ago before I found premium. Supposedly like Tom said we're being replinished right now. There is a wilco station right near my work and yesterday they only had regular - today they had all 3.

CNN just showed a map of places with gas shortages and NC, TN and VA were on the map! They said Kentucky is fine but the other places are spotty at best. Scary!

The evacuation in Texas etc for Hurricane Ike supposedly made a lot of oil refineries shut down, thus cutting off the supply to (from what I've heard) Georgia, North & South Carolina, Virginia. I watched the news last night. According to them the refineries have been back up & running, and their is fuel in local large supply tanks; they are just having problems getting that much fuel delivered. Fuel companies are allowing their employees to work overtime to re-supply local stations. So...the news said by the 1st of October everything should be completely back to normal.

From what I understand according to the news, the shortage is kind of blown out of proportion. One or two stations will run out, and everyone will panic and try to by fuel anywhere. Once they find a station with fuel they will fill their cars all the way up, and when everyone does this they will run that station dry. Of course a tanker may fill one station up, but as soon as people find out they have gas they all flock their and deplete it again. Its kind of a never ending cycle.

My guess is that the gasoline will be held at a lower price till after the Presidential election. There soon after it will jump up $1.00 to $1.50 at least. In short, the stations are refusing to sell at this price with little or no profit.

I just heard on CNN- that there are still issues with gasoline in the southeast and estimate that it will not get resolved (according to some gasoline official) until Oct. 15th. It may be silly of me, but I'm thinking of carrying my two MSR bottles of gasoline just in case.

I'm filling them up before departing and using only in case of emergency. After the rally, I'm heading to DC, NC, then TN so I'm concerned about availability in these areas.

If you possess inside information, please continue to share what's happening on a daily base...Is the gasoline issues as bad as CNN paints, which they say still is a serious matter for those who live in GA, TN, NC and parts of VA.

    Thanks.

right when ike hit most of the places around here were out of gas within a day but by the start of the next business week everything was back to normal and prices have slowly been going back down it was 3.77 for regular this morning on my way to work so hopefully the downward trend continues
Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, But when there is nothing left to take away.

I could not get premium last night or today. I didn't have the opportunity to check a lot of stations as I have been. From what I could tell most stations had regular available. And I went during the middle of the day rather than late evening this time. I too am thinking of taking a spare fuel can - just in case!

Sharon, I have not seen (nor heard of) any shortage issues in the DC area, filled up yesterday at my favorite station in Annandale, 3.65 for mid-grade (89 as per the tag on my fill cap), can't say for sure about anywhere else tho - if we could just figure out a way to capture all the hot air coming out of congress we'd have it made..............

    All,

Coming north from eastern central Florida yesterday had no gas problems until hitting Columbia SC in the afternoon. I tried five stations until I could find some mid-grade, and mixed it 50/50 with the hundred miles of high test still in the tank. NPR this morning reports it to be at least that short in Charlotte, my next attempt north. But my Daytona dealer confirmed this (Thursday) morning that I can use less than high-test, so we must have a knock-sensor active timing system like the 1200s. I wish I knew more about these bikes! I came within a minute of canceling my two nights at the Wattstull, but now I'm going to pack, check out, and continue north instead of aborting the trip and returning south.
