ID:	141786Headed out today through Somerset and Hunterdon counties in NJ and across the Delaware River into Pennsylvania. Explored some of my usual haunts along some twisty backroads around the Sourland Mountains in NJ. Those living in actually mountainous areas would consider them hills. I have nice route that I follow to Van Sant airport in Bucks County Pennsylvania. It is beautiful little airport with a large grass strip. Thus it attracts many historic taildragger airplanes and also has a glider/soaring operation. Because of it's location and the airplane activity, it attracts lots of motorcycles and car clubs.

Here are pics from the day. I was riding a loaner F800R.

Beautiful winter weather here in Northern New South Wales (Australia) & time to "get on yer bike". Took a punt that the skies would clear and headed out to the back of Kyogle and The Lion's Road - a 70km narrow, winding sealed road through the rainforest on the border with Queensland. No trucks or caravans etc allowed, and perfect for bikes, this road has some of the most spectacular scenery in this part of the world, including views over the Cougal Spiral - a full circle loop of the main Sydney-Brisbane railway line. And at the other end is the Rathdowney Pub, serving home made wood-fired pizzas for lunch, before heading back home via the Summerland Way (Woodenbong/Kyogle/Lismore); total distance travelled, about 250km (100miles). A great day out with my girl!

Just a short run via the Duddon valley into the heart of Cumbria for a pub meet at Seathwaite (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seathw...South_Lakeland)
Mostly very narrow tracks without traffic except for the occasional sheep. Pictures of some of the other bikes attending are in the Classic Motorcycle Photos thread.

My son and I headed up to the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. Later we headed to Bear Mountain for a Father's Day ride. The weatherman promised dry weather up north at West Point and rain in Central NJ., so we headed out early to beat the raindrops in NJ. Actually was the opposite and we fought rain all afternoon. I had brand new Dunlop Sportsmax tires the F8 so, with the rain, could not enjoy the mountain twisties at Bear Mountain.... had a hard enough time seeing out he visor.

In between, we stopped at Rockwell Cycles (Ducati and MV Agusta) to window shop. I never saw the MV Rivale 800 before... and now am in love. It is like jewelry with all these wonderful design details. Good thing Rockwell and the next closest dealer (Willow Grove, PA) are too far to consider. Cannot stop thinking about the bike...ugh.

gerry, I really like the rivale, I love the accuracy that MV Agusta puts in making motorcycles, you should watch a F4 or a F3 when are dismounted to understand how the MV tries to make a perfect bike. their bikes maybe are done better than the ducati.
I've just traded my F4 for a F3, I will take it when my leg will be recovered enough to ride a bike. when I went to the dealer I've seen the new turismo veloce. it's much better in presence than in photo, take a look at that bike, it's really nice. as the brutale 800 dragster, which is the only naked I like.
... if you buy a MV Agusta (MV means Meccanica Verghera, the factory where the count Agusta started to produce motorcycles), then you will buy another one and another one... if it's possible.

p.s. if you have a problem with a MV calling the call center here you talk with an engineer who tries to solve your problem if possible and if you need to be sent to the MV service, when you arrive you find someone waiting for you and already knows which is your problem. this is the assistance!

Guido, thanks for the thoughts. I will have to look at the Touriso Veloce when available. The Rivale is absolutely beautiful and I can only imagine the sounds that the three cylinder produces.

P.S. quick shot from today.... little gravel time.

90 miles in south Dakota. From rapid city south on 79 to 36 then iron mountain road to mount Rushmore then 385 to 44 back into town. I don't think I will enjoy a ride this much in a really long time. My f800gt averaged 67mpg for the loop. Loving it.Click image for larger version.

My brother visited from out of town this past weekend. We took the twins out for 160-170 mile loop into northwestern NJ. We first took the backroads up to High Point, NJ which is aptly named as it is the highest point in NJ at just over 1800 feet ASL. I know that is not a big altitude for folks that live near the Rockies, Alps, etc., but it is a pretty good elevation for NJ and provides some nice vistas and decent roads to get there.

Afterwards, we meandered over to the Sterling Hill Mine in Ogdensburg. We had hoped to do the tour into the mine. I have done that a couple times in the past but forgot that the tour is only once a day - and we arrived too late in the day. The area at one time was a world leader in fluorescent rocks and minerals and the tour takes you into a darkened area of the mine where they turn on the black lights and you can select some rocks samples based on fluorescence and the colors that you like. It is a neat side trip for a hot summer day as it much cooler underground in the mine. The also have a great collection of rocks and geodes on display

Rode just five miles down the road last night in stifling heat to the annual Cassington Bike Night, over 10,000 bikes, amazing atmosphere, a superb eclectic mix of bikes and a good opportunity to have a beer in the sun with some old friends.

This photographers website gives you a real flavour of the night.

Getting ready to lead a 200 miler club ride tomorrow I thought I'd better check the coolant level. I don't know why as I've never done in the last 8 years always having relied on main dealer servicing.

    What a shock !

Topped up with anti-freeze mixture it looks better now.

Yeah, and the next time; make sure your "technician" puts the right side seal in, the "right way up"........ the first time!

Although, the extra work was rewarding, as the Carne Asada & and the Margaritas were exemplary!

Took the R out for a 200 mile run from Baton Rouge up to Angola (yep, the prison), then turned northeast for a quick run through the hills of southern Mississippi. Headed back down into St Francisville and crossed the Mississippi River into the flat lands some lunch and then a quick run back home. Today was mostly about testing how the new grips handle the vibration. Hoping to make a 2,000 miler up to Nebraska and back in a couple weeks and really needed to kill some vibes for the long haul.

Tomorrow, I'm planning a run south through the Louisiana swamps to find the state's smallest church (big enough for one person). Maybe I'll stop long enough to take a pic or two.

As promised, here's my ride report from Sunday. Chalked up another couple hundred miles. This time, I headed west out of Baton Rouge to cross the Mississippi River and jumped onto the River Road, which snakes along the bottom of the levee. Every turn the river makes, the road mimics it, so lots of high speed sweepers to keep anyone entertained for miles on end.

Running south along hwy 405, I finally found this:

The Chapel of the Madonna was built in 1903 by a sugar farmer. He was praying for the recovery of his eldest son and this was his part of the "deal." The church is 8ft by 8ft and has five seats inside. Make your plans now, the annual mass will be held August 15, but you better get there early if you want a seat.

After a brief stop at the church, I continued south and headed into plantation country. Rolled up to Oak Alley Plantation, which is frequently used in movies (Interview With a Vampire and Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte, for example). It may look familiar... if you can see it in the pic. Sorry, I couldn't stop long. I was actually parked among 4 or 5 "no stopping" signs. Figured I had a couple minutes as local law enforcement passed by me just as I was pulling up to the plantation.

Here's a view of the sugar cane fields at Oak Alley. It's still an active sugar farm.

And a view approaching the plantation. You can see the sugar fields to the right. The trees in the distance to the right are the famous 300 year old oaks that form the path to the front of the house. BTW, those are not indigenous to the area. They were brought to Louisiana by one of the owners in the early 1800s when they were already 100-150 years old.

Here is a picture of the slave quarters at the next plantation over. They're very similar to what would have been at Oak Alley.

After leaving Oak Alley, I continued south along River Road and crossed the Sunshine Bridge (named after the song, "You Are My Sunshine," which was written by a former Louisiana governor) and headed north to Baton Rouge on the River Road on the east side of the river.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

A good day in East Anglia for a ride out. Mostly blue skies and temp warming from 21° to 25°C.

Did about 120 miles on a circular trip with friend on his Trophy. Stopped at Orford for a mug of tea and sandwich at a cafe overlooking Orford Ness.

(Sorry no photos) On vacation this and next week and heading out to NYC without my bike on Thursday, so I took the F8r for a 400k solo ride.

Left Toronto and headed North east along the back roads and stopped 2 hours later in Gores Landing on Rice Lake for Lunch. Then meandering through the rolling hills of North Cumberland and Hastings along the Trent river.

Perfect temperature ranging from 21C to a little warmer in the and the empty roads were enjoyable.

Took the Lakeshore scenic road from Port Hope to Newcastle and the back on the 401 for a High-speed run home as it was getting late for dinner. Great day

Now off to NYC with my wife for a few days as I already took a 10 ride in May.

    Happy Wife Happy life.

Early morning run to watch the balloons launch. Not a far ride but F8 was key to getting around long lines of traffic and exploring the neighborhoods for a good place to watch. Saw a gentleman on very old (1930s?) Beemer that was very clean. Was going to find out more but he had an audience.

Went out today and did a 100 mile circuit. Had thought I might head east then follow the coast road around North Norfolk. Didn't quite do that but headed north to begin with, then detoured west across North Norfolk though never actually reached the coast. Eventually stopped for a light pub lunch which turned into a three course meal. Smoked Salmon to start and a VERY rare steak was all I was going to have, but then I noticed they had Eton Mess in the dessert - well what is a bloke with a sweet tooth going to do ! After lunch I headed down into the middle of Norfolk before turning for home, sticking with back roads all the way.

Left home at 10.00am and returned 6 hours later (lunch did account for a fair bit of that time).

Recently returned from the National at Billings. Also took in Yellowstone and Bear Tooth pass. Camped a couple days near Stanley, Idaho before making my way back to John Day and then home. Temps varied from 100+ to 27 the second morning at Stanley Lake. Beautiful riding all the way.

On Sunday I was out of bed at 06.00 and left at 07.20 to meet up with a few friends 30 miles away for breakfast.
Following a natter and a bite we did a circuit of Melmerby, Hartside and Alston (the highest market town in England). Then turning for Middleton in Teesdale, Brough and Kirkby Stephen before bypassing Hawes for Caton and home.
165 very pleasant miles across the fells of Cumbria, the Yorkshire moors and home in time for lunch.
PS. One of my favourite attractions in Alston is the narrow guage railway http://www.south-tynedale-railway.org.uk/ which is well worth a visit.

I've been riding a lot lately-- 100 miles yesterday, including a trip to downtown London. Then this morning, due to the tube strike, I rode back into London with my son as pillion so we could both get to work. Would have cost £28 in public transit fees alone if we hadn't rode in, but it's funny getting back into the habit of having a 6 foot 160 lb pillion on the back of my F700 GS. Yes, I did crank up the rear pre-load on the shock to full and increased the tire pressure to the recommended level for two riders on board. My son also recently passed his CBT, and we rented a 125 Suzuki Slingshot for two days this week for him to learn manual gears. In two days of riding, he was doing great and we did a 20 mile ride in bad traffic with no problems on the second day. The suzuki was very easy to ride, but very gutless.

I also did a six day trip to Scotland a few weeks ago, but I will do a separate post about it.

I see you come over to PA often. I used to cross into NJ. Milford, PA for lunch then we'd run around Sussex County, High Point State Park, couple visits to Hot Dog Johnny's.
I used to cover NJ, been to every JCPL and PSEG location.

Yes, today we actually rode about 250 miles through NJ and PA. Crossed near the Delaware Water Gap. Went to Cherry Ridge Airport near Honesdale. No pics.... lots of riding. Passed Hot Dog Johnnies on the way home.

Just a short ride of 70 miles for me to a club meeting and home again. I set off in rain at home but the roads were dry in 2/10ths of a mile.
A traffic jam due to an accident at roadworks caused long delays for traffic travelling North.
    Maps are OK but.
They don't record just whereabouts you were lost!

    Hi Phil,
I ride in the rain - it saves having to wash the bike!

Went for a nice ride today and ended up in Nicholson, Pa.
Here's information on the bridge. http://nicholsonbridge.com/
There is a celebration coming up in September with a train ride leaving from Steamtown, Talk of bringing in a steam locomotive for the trip.
Steamtown also has trolly rides, train and trolly museums. http://www.nps.gov/stea/index.htm

Phil, did the same today. After last week's group ride that included 15-20 miles of dirt and gravel , the old girl was filthy. Thanks to Telemark for the recommendation of Autosol Bluing Remover - cleaned the exhaust pipes and canister nicely.

Another perfect day for a ride. This is on Rt6 heading east, on my way from Towanda toward Tunkhannock, PA. The Endless Mountains.

Got in some good riding this weekend. Saturday I got in a quick ride that started at sunrise.

The ride only lasted a little over an hour before I had to move on to other things. But, I did manage to get back on two wheels later that morning and clocked another hour in the saddle.

Sunday I was free, so I got in a good ride. Headed north on the back roads of Louisiana into southern Mississippi. Had to keep reminding myself to watch the speed because there were numerous deer along the road. Never know when one will want to play chicken.

Rolled into Woodville, MS around 1 pm and headed down one of my favorite roads towards Pinckneyville, MS. As I was scooting along, I noticed a historical marker, so I pulled over to check it out. Turns out Oliver Pollock's grave was right by the road. I had read about him in the history books, but had no idea he was buried there.

After that quick little stop, I continued south towards Hwy 66. Just as I got back into Louisiana it started to rain, so I headed back home. So much for a long day of riding. At least I got in a couple hours of riding.
