Today, was Veterans Day here in the US so I met up with my son (Army) and took him to the Harley Davidson plant in York, PA for the Steel Toe Tour. Highly recommend it. Even if not an H-D fan, great to see the manufacturing processes. It's an impressive facility.

I covered 296 miles today but mostly slab because had a lot of ground to cover in one day to get back home.

My military spec Harley MT came out of that York plant sometime in 1996 - nice to see a bit of what the place looks like.

Just returned from three days exploring "The Scenic Rim" - rainforested mountains on the Queensland/New South Wales border, with spectacular views and great riding roads. There were literally 100's of other bikes (solo, small groups, large clubs) checking out the scenery and enjoying the weather. As an added bonus, we came across my good mate Burri, on a back road, completing another landscape masterpiece.

A friend and I both took the day off today and headed up to the National Motorcycle Museum at Solihull, http://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/ we took the scenic route via Burford, Stow On The Wold and then up the Fosse Way, stopping at the Pit Stop Cafe Shipston On Stour, a very nice clean biker friendly cafe.

The museum is well worth a visit, every significant motorcycle manufactured in the UK is on display, the collection of Brough Superiors is breathtaking. Needless to say it's mega biker friendly, they take care of your helmet and kit, all the staff are nice and helpful and upstairs is a very good cafe/restaurant.

The weather was cold, flithy and wet, but didn't dampen our spirits, 160 miles in total today, bike was perfect even at a steady 85 mph on the motorway home it didn't miss a beat.

December and about 55 degrees. Worked on Christmas decorations in the early morning and then out for a ride. Just ran quick errands but took the long way and the farm backroads. Was great get out in December without heated gear. Chatted few seconds with a gentleman on a very sweet S1000rr at a stoplight. Said he ask has F800S with about 58K miles.

A chilly ride along 1 south. However, no matter how much I'm feeling sorry for myself that I'm chilly, this pic shows that yes, there are still folks out surfing (Pacifica). If they can brave the weather for their sport, I shouldn't whine that I have on a heated vest and a bike with heated grips.

The weather was surprisingly good today and got in a couple hours of ride time. A remaining snow pack made for nice scenery and road were pretty clear. Enough that I tried some GS action on dirt/gravel as well. The dirt road made for a nice 'shadow shot' background with the low sun angle at this time of year.

We lost an iconic local motorcycle destination last night. The historic Rabbit Hash General Store in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky had been operated continuously since 1831 and was destroyed in a fire last night.

This is too bad. I'm originally from Cincinnati, and my Mom always liked the name "Rabbit Hash" as a town. Any support from the town on getting it rebuilt?

Rabbit Hash Resurgent: seven days after the fire that ended nearly two centuries of continuous operation of the Rabbit Hash General Store, the community is vibrant and the spirit of Rabbit Hash is as strong as it ever was.

Well the town is a non-profit historical society consisting mostly of the store and some other buildings on 2-1/2 acres. Pretty strong community support on the GoFundMe page that was set up: as of this writing it was about USD $53k. Today everybody was leaving big "tips" in the jar or on the counter. I saw guys buying a 12-oz beer and leaving $20.

I think the spirit will survive even if the originality of the structure is gone forever. They are talking about using period-correct salvage wood from other structures in the area, so we are hopeful that the rebuilt store will carry some authentic vintage atmosphere.

Persuaded a couple of friends out today for a circular tour round Norfolk and Suffolk. My F8GT, a K12R and a Triumph Trophy.

Only 130 miles and 5°C but blue skies and quiet roads = Perfick !

Was about 1 degree Celsius, but layers and heated grips, was warmer on the bike than off it!

I made the heated grab rail, I say made.....bodged, as the missus cannot take the cold at all, I used the heated Velcro over grips from Oxford, which fit perfectly over the rail, then fed the wires through the bike. I cable tied the on and off switch next to the grips in easy reach.
The missus came with me to test them out, they don't get nearly as warm as the actual replacement grips, but she said as long as she has a firm grip there's enough warmth to keep her hands comfortable. Certainly the first winter ride where she hasn't complained about the cold.

No rides this week I've been busy in the man cave a.k.a. workshop fabricating a new rear carrier for the airhead.
Lots of trial and error and a near miss when a metal bar I was bending released from the bench vise and I fell back on the beck (pointed end) of my anvil. I hope my neighbours weren't around to hear!

I think I counted 105 HP total. My bike + 20 metal sculptures. Busier than I should be. A new puppy in the house and on-call as well, but had to take the bike out for a ride. Sunny and about 50°F. Had to go. About 100 miles of easy riding. Have to get rid of these ContiMotion tires, but the bike is performing better than I deserve. This is a spot between Sisters and Bend along Hwy 20.

Managed a little spin out with a pal on Sunday past, but only got a couple of photo's (both in the same spot )

Did around 140 cool miles within the bounds of Moray & Aberdeenshire, starting off along the northern coast then heading inland to the snow line.

Just my second ride on my GT, have fitted a Givi screen that has reduced teh strainon my neck, but still too noisy, (more work to do). After riding through the Lake District, I ended up in Carlisle at the new BMW dealer - naturally it cost me as I bought a very small 'half' plug to fit into the ignition controlled plug by the battery with three wires sticking out, of which one is redundant - it 'only' cost me £15! Then I bought an Optimate charger compatible with CANBus - oh I do like spending money, so long as SWMBO doesn't find out......

I've started to get acquainted with the handling, and gearing. The gearing is much higher than I'm used to (CBF1000) and the revs have to be higher to get into the sweet spot, but it is definitely more nimble around bends, and so much easier to push around. I'm getting more confident that I am going to enjoy it once I've got it sorted to my taste.

Ken, that little 3 wired plug that connects to the accessory plug on your GT is invaluable. It is a wise purchase, and gives you access to a switched power lead to your bike's CanBus system. Are you feeling adventurous? Get yourself a FuzeBlock or PDM-60, and use that connector to access a keyed access. Then, you can electrically accessorize your GT to your heart's content. Heated gear, GPS, smart phone, iPad, back massager (?). You can add multiple accessories with confidence that you won't overtax your GT's electrical system.

After researching this forum that is exactly why I shaked the moths from my wallet so I can wire up Nippy Norman's FZ1 fuse box. Hopefully sometime to-day, including Satnav and video, with DRL and LOUD horn to follow. Whether I fit HID replacement headlights depends on how I get on with the 'standard' lights.

Many thanks for your advice, I'm always open to suggestions as a BMW virgin. Once I interfere with the electrics I suppose I'll no longer be a virgin......

I rode my GT to the dealers today to have my right mirror replaced under warranty, the mirror arm was a bit loose and would not tighten with the torx bolt so they replaced for me also I asked if they would fit my Pyramid carbon hugger whilst it was in the workshop. I was pleasantly surprised when after about 1 1/2 hrs wait & 3 cups of coffee later my bike was done with a charge of only £26.

    Great service

Still laid up with painfull rib injury and it was a nice day here today, would have been perfect for an afternoon out. Sadly both are still tucked up in the garage.

Had to lift the skirt and have a little peek though...

Sorry to hear about the injury, and I hope you are better soon.

I had some days off and did about 800 miles the other week-- returned to the Cat and Fiddle in the Peak District for a one day trip. I also did one of my 0 degree 5 am rides to the Chilterns with a return stop at the Ace Cafe for an unhealthy breakfast. The most interesting ride, however, was from east coast to home (115 miles) on a 125cc bike for my 18 year old son. He decided he would like a bike for both shorter on-road trips and light green laning (on his CBT), so we picked up a used but low mile Honda XR 125 L. It was a lot of fun putting that thing home on back roads on the knacked front tyre, no mirrors, low oil and other used, cheap bike issues. What is fun now is the host of new tools in the garage, including a simple bike lift, so we can work on the bike. New tyre is on, mirrors are on, and next he is doing new chain and sprockets. I will try to share pics later-- it is a fun, happy little bike, but tough and easy to work on (carb, one lung, cheap parts).
