The Hydrogen Highway in the Santa Cruz Mountains across from Alice's Restaurant is looking pretty sad lately. They don't even bother to shut or lock the door to the facility. So I went inside and took these photos.

I'm glad I didn't buy a hydrogen powered vehicle on the empty promise of the highway.

Hydrogen is a boondoggle. It’s only advantage over battery-electric is that it maintains the traditional gas station model which government is comfortable in regulating, taxing, and extracting tithe for re-election.

According to this article in my newspaper today, it is looking like the Hydrogen Highway in California is developing some potholes and no one is fixing them. Why am I not surprised? Sorry about my circling of some bullet points that I thought were worth noting.

It’s all the Hindenburg’s fault. Can’t ever undo that audio/visual. “Oh the Humanity!”

Have long said The Almighty Dollar is the correct metric to judge viability. If you have to use electricity to produce hydrogen then how much do you have to pay, ignoring any government financial favoritism, to get that hydrogen in a useful form, in a vehicle, to move a mile?

Recently a 170 mile day in the Tesla cost 3.4¢/mile. Vs local cost of gasoline it was the equivalent of 92 MPG$. The Tesla cost a lot in 2013, I’ll never recover. But it cost less than a Mercedes-Benz S Class, and retains value better, and is more fun.

Here is an interesting 10-minute long video by an astronomer discussing new advances in producing hydrogen at less cost than is currently used to produce the element for powering vehicles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUE5kEq43EQ
