I found one of the G450RR from Dakar race. Currently the engine is rebuilt. I know by the mechanic that the crankshaft Husqy are stronger than BMW engine. The generator is reinforced. The bike will be on sale soon.

Here three pictures from another Dakar bike I thing. You will see that the swingarm is extended by 3cm by cutting and welding another swingarm (you need a second swingarm for this modification) You see the distance between the tire and swingarm. This modification give more stability. This part as far I know was only available for the team or custom made for rider.

Can't say I am fast enough or in tune enough to know if a longer swing arm would matter to me...

I find this picture of the cases above that have been Tig welded for the oil cooler modifications to be the most interesting thing I have seen in a long time.

It has been claimed more then once that these cases are not readily welded for repairs, etc. Its pretty obvious these guys in Europe have found a solution to the mysterious and difficult welding procedure that has stumped the experts with these engines here in the U.S.

It has also been claimed although the engines internals are of the highest quality, the BMW / Husky Engines being made in China by Kymco was that the foundry was able to use what was referred to as being "cast of cheap pot metal". It was also said "The alloy is unknown" and it is not weldable due to it's unknown alloy or mixture of alloys. Those may not be the exact words but that is what was said.

    This picture above proves otherwise.

    So this is good news.

Looks like some pretty damned nice welds to me.

So, I would like to know what number filler rod was used to weld these so called un-weldable cases.

Personally I have never run across an aluminum casting yet that I couldn't identify what it was and find an appropriate filler rod, that allowed it to be welded cleanly. As long as it was cleaned and prepped properly. This also holds true for magnesium cases. From Honda's, Harleys, Maico's, to Volkswagen beetle engines.

My machine has always pulled through for me on everything I have ever put under the Tig torch since I bought the machine in 1978.

Is that oil modification really any different than the NL Design Oil filter cover? Seems like from the position it is the same basic flow location.

This is the modification for Frans Verhoeven bike.

The swingarm is extended by +/- 3,5 cm like picture from Matt post #5 it look like CNC aluminum machined ?, Xenon light with oil cooler, second oil filter, according information this second oil filter was abandoned. see Email from Christof Marowsky Head of spart part at Speedbrain.
On the pictures you see the blue Saxsses wheels, but on the race the black Haanweels ( like the picture from Matt) were used with the cush drive system I think. That would be help to preserve the torque limiter.

    Hello Pascal,

I don’t know who produced this engine cover. We also have none of these left in our workshop. We used them at the beginning in our BMW Rallye Bikes.

    Hello Pascal,

The second oil filter is for cleaning the oil before it comes into crankcase. The engine is in stock already pretty good also for rallye use and if you don’t lose oil you should have no lubrication problems. This second oil filter is not bad to have but makes the engine not much more stable. Crank shaft and its bearings make more problems. The plugs for the oil cooler are near standard oil filter on our engines, not on that second filter.
On our Husqvarna engines we don’t use the second filter any more. Our race engines (te449) have stronger crank shafts, other cylinder head, piston and mapping. Clutch and generator are stock.
For the g450rr it is really difficult to get still some spare parts. We sell now everything we have left in our workshop and we don’t produce it any more. We have on engine with the second oil filter left. I can’t offer the case to you at the moment because we think about to use it for building up a g450rr for our own “museum”. If we sell it I can come back to you. For the 30L rear tank it would be helpful for me to know what you need. We have some mounting parts left but no complete kit. What we still have are a complete fairing, exhaust pipe, and some used exhausts. We offer them step by step on ebay.
We don’t produce the BMW stuff because we concentrate on selling our own Rallyebike the Speedbrain 450 Rally (http://shop.speedbrain.de/speedbrain...ally-Factory_1). Also available in a standard version. The parts we use now don’t fit on a g450. For sure not without making them fit.
Just let me know if what you need for your bike and I can check if we have it.

    Best regards Christoph
