"Just did tune up on bike. Rear tire, spark plug, air filter, engine oil, new battery. Bike has programmer installed, Touratech rack, aftermarket seat, transparent gas tank, handle bar risers and full titanium akrapovic exhaust.*
Still want to change coolant, install blinkers and change out head light bulb. *Only have one mirror though. *I'll have this done next week when I get off work.*
Plastics on the bike r scratched, did use bike in bush. Though never raced it or been hard on her. Always garage kept.*
Spare parts include front & rear sprockets. Can give away boots as well if they fit ya.*"

That looks like some nice Green edged trails you got there to ride on.

Its already like 100+ degrees hear everyday and the Monsoons are coming any day now.

Boy what I would give to have a place like that to ride in. I am jealous.

You seem to be in a great location up there to really enjoy the bike.

    Lucky you.

Campbell the link explaining axle puller appears dead.

I took out the secondary butterfly today and installed the ZipTy crankcase breather and checked valve lash. I'm going out for a ride in a minute but it seems to start much better.

I am looking to replace the stock air filter with No Toil but the 110-01 seems hard to find. The 130-45 for the Husky application seems slightly different but the same shape, anybody running one?

The axle puller slips into the open ended hollow axle and when you screw the center fastener it wedges and tightens up to snugly holds itself in the axles end. It can then be used as a grab handle to pull the axle during wheel changes.

I haven't laid the Husky 449 air filter next to the G450 filter but I know they are very similar. I have seen them recently advertised to fit both bikes on Ebay ? If it fits and seals all the way around let us know.

Scott, link seems to be working - just a photo of my bike with puller fitted to rear.

I may have made the changes to initial fuelling after removing the second butterfly....shouldn't make a lot of difference though. Have you configured your accelerator pump function?....works a treat with the butterfly mod. But be careful it can bite!

As for Filters the best is a Uni Filter Procomp2 hands down. Hard to find on their site look under road bikes/bmw about second from bottom of page without model info....?

    Link;http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/e...2_bmwroad.html

    Also been discussed before, link;http://g450riders.org/forum/showthre...=1#post1302082

Seniors moment......8 Dirt bikes in the shed at the moment, ones a TE511 will check filter fitment.

Scott, glad you woke me from my slumber with that one .......TE511 sitting in the shed and I hadn't thought to check that sort of stuff

Short answer is the TE filter will work a treat on the G450X and is a superior design. The filter retaining cages are identical as is the perimeter of the Airbox lid in regards to shape and profile.

The filter fitted to the above TE511 is a RHK FlowMax, so I can't be absolutely sure it's design is identical to the original Husky but am pretty confident it is.

The design difference is the TE filter foam returns at the periphery to form a pocket, the filter retaining cage sits inside this pocket whilst clamping the filter to the Airbox lid. On the G450X the filter foam is flat (no pocket) and relies on little plastic teeth cast around the perimeter of the Airbox lid to prevent the foam being drawn inwards and creating a dust entry point. The Husky Airbox lid does not have these teeth, so I am confident the pocket design is Husky's and not RHK's.

The Husky filter fits to the G450X Airbox lid without any problems (no need to remove teeth) and fits up to the Airbox without any worries although a little tighter fit due to the two layers of foam (no different to the Uni Filter in this regard) and eliminates what I consider a design flaw by BMW.

I have highlighted this problem before somewhere and also the need to remove the left shroud to ensure the Airbox lid lugs are correctly engaged, when fitting the Airbox lid. I run Dzus fasteners left and right side to make this quick and easy, the Airbox access on the TE is bloody awful and on the above TE511 these lugs WHERE NOT ENGAGED and dust WAS getting past the filter.......no surprises the Airbox was full of oil.

It would be possible to use the BMW Airbox lid on the TE but not vise-versa due to the cut out for the battery on the G450X, the TE battery is recessed into the top of the fuel tank.

Thanks so much Campbell! I haven't checked accelerator pump settings, must have missed that instruction. The bike is running very well but can be a bit of a dog to start sometimes.

I put Riders Edge base valves and SKF seals in the forks yesterday but have not ridden yet, I also modified the mid-valve shim stacks. Interestingly the base valve in my 2010 looks way better than the pictures I've seen from '09's, much more open. I would say it's very close to the aftermarket valve port sizes. If anyone wants to buy them I'll sell them for $100 CAD. They are on the right in the photo and I can give you the shim stack recipe from Riders Edge.

No problem Scott, are starting problems hot or cold? Cranking over well-strong battery? What is your TPS voltage? Idle speed?

You will like the Tubliss system - best thing since sliced bread.

Interested to know how the 2010 forks go, I hated the stock 09 suspension and after talking with Terry Hay at Racetech in Sydney, decided to ditch it rather than spend money. I run KYB SSS cartridge forks with lighter chamber springs and modified cartridge piston, Ohlins TTX44 progressive damping shock (bloody hard to find), adjustable offset front axle and adjustable steering head of my own design. The 2010 is reputed to have a steeper rake than the 09 but I haven't been able to get an official spec.

I put TPS at 7.66v, idle speed I'd have to check. Cold starts mainly, battery seems to turn it many time and only went flat once at gas station when I forgot to turn the headlight off. I started putting the battery tender on all the time. I was surprised it went flat so easy! Battery was supposed to be new before I bought it but I'm putting a Shorai in soon.

TPS should be at stock closed throttle voltage as this is what the map was written around, 7.66 maybe right it's in the workshop manual. Headlight should turn off after a short delay when the engine is stopped. Before changing battery check it is charging with a multi meter. Voltage at rest prior to starting (no tender for 1hr before test),Voltage while cranking and voltage at fast idle.

Also give this some thought; http://g450riders.org/forum/showthread.php/183874-Flat-battery-headaches-continue!?p=1988017&viewfull=1#post1988017

TPS was below 7v but I believe the spec is 7.0v
It seems to be charging but I will confirm, I restart often when out riding and it always seems pretty strong. The headlight did shut off but the gas station is 1km from home and it took some time to get it running at home before I left, the battery didn't act flat at first but it just turned and turned then died.

I set the TPS to 7.03v just now and also noticed the battery terminals were not tight
I did two big days on the weekend and reached 11.7 hours since getting it, changed the oil and cleaned the air filter tonight.

I noticed the coolant was down and added 250-300ml, is this something that needs regular checks? There is no overflow tank so I guess if it gets hot it just pumps cooland on the ground?

I think the bike seems to be gradually working better with use and my continuing tinkering. I spent the day riding in heavy rain Saturday and a gorgeous day Monday, getting much more comfortable on dirt and with the bike.

I have never needed to add water, except ones when did some trehugging slipping of a endure track and the radiator cap got a good hit and some coolant came out

Scott, judging from your Video (Got a good look at your brake line) no reason for getting hot if cooling system all in order - radiator fins not blocked or bent from pressure wash, coolant pump circulating correctly, Radiator cap holding correct pressure and thermo fan cutting in as required. The cooling system on the G450X is class leading and I have never experienced a issue even on slow single track in summer, which is very hot here.

As you noted it is not a recovery system and as such should not be filled right up or it will push out excess coolant as it heats up and expands, min level would be to the top of the tubes and full about 3/16">1/4" above as a rule of thumb. It will probably be in the owners manual.

If you experience coolant loss under the above conditions then there is a problem.

Thanks again! I guess I overfilled since it didn't take much to cover the tubes. That's a hilly region for around here [emoji38]

Just to update the bike seems to be starting better these days and running well in general. I received a Ziptye Racing oil filter cover today and also installed a RSC easy pull clutch lever.

RSC easy pull 2 finger clutch lever is amazing, so much better!! If you order one be sure to get the bar spacer and the dirtbike cable insert. Feels so light and easy!
Bike is working great, I put on a Motoz Tractionator Enduro S/T on the front a while back and while it is an improvement I am not in love with it. I wanted a Goldentyre GT216AA fatty but couldn't find a reasonable way to get one in Canada at the time. I have since found a source and Shinko is now making the tire with the Shinko branding on it. They always made it but GT patent ran ran out so Shinko kinda stole it since they were already making it... Kinda shitty business practice but if you want the tire it is called the Shinko 216MX Fatty...
I did just order a GT232N rear tire and hope to be impressed, finally get to use that Tubliss rear insert I have been sitting on all summer
I have just done my second oil change at 23 hours, not using it all the time but when I do I am out for the day

On Friday I'll be installing and running the New Shinko 216 fatty myself after running 2 GT 216 fattys on my FE501 Husky. Installing the new Nuetech Nitro Mousse on the front as well. They are made by the same guys who make the Tubliss set up.

Here's a picture of the "Shinko" 216 MX Fat Tire sitting next to one of my old "Goldentyre" 216 AA Fatty's both are off the rim.
The tread pattern is identical except for the Shinko "S" molded into the side knob and the name "Shinko" instead of the name "Goldentyre" down the center of the tire between the knobs.
Size of the Shinko 216 MX Fat tire when mounted is comparable to the GT 216 fatty.
The rear tire I also pictured is a "Kenda 760 Trackmaster". These both went on my FE501 this morning.

Yah, I know its not mounted on my G450X. It already has a new Sedona 887 on the back of it and my used Michelin Bib Mousse that I took out of the front wheel on my 501 is going in the front of my G450 when I buy another one of these Shinko's for it. The price is right too. Slaven's Racing has them on sale for just $64.95 right now.

I mounted the new rear tire today, looks great! The 120/100/18 is a fair bit taller than the 140/80/18, should turn a fair bit better in tight singletrack. The rear wheel is also now exactly 3lbs lighter

I am sure I'm not the first guy to run a 120/100/18 rear but I thought I'd give my $.02 feedback after riding it yesterday.
    1. It does turn better
    2. In my opinion it does noticeably change the gearing
    3. I really like it

Hey guys, I have had no horn for a while and just this weekend realized why, on of the two wires going into the harness plug is broken off. I am wondering if anyone knows if that connector can be bought as a kit as the wire is not long enough to repair.
