Hi guys and i don't want this to be a sale thread.
Working with the investors of the dmd breather and want it to be a direct bolt on with no mods for the bmw.
Im getting a plastic one printed and sent to fit.
Unfortunately to start production they need to get 20 orders at a time.
Just wanting to know if there is any interest and i can get it happening.
Colors would be great input too.
I was thinking silver with dmd in black?
Just after numbers for interest at this time.

I don't want to be a seller and just want to have available parts of the awesome BMWS.
They will be on on eBay if there is enough interest from us direct from the creators.

The BMW Blue Red White colors or the blue violet, light blue, red stripe (Texaco + Bavarian) Anyways interested in the design you come up with, best would be to have the possibility to install it to the half opening that is closer to the rear end of the engine...

    smokin Joe,

I'll take one for my spare engine.
    Lets get these done.
I'd rather cut a rocker cover gasket any damn day, rather than drill my other rocker cover for another ZipTy breather.
I could make either on my 14" lathe and Bridgeport but not for what these cost finished.
How do you want to collect the payment, I'll pay up front.
    Send payment money order too?

    Coming along nicely.
Im just trying to fit the hose and finding out what else i need.
I found if i flip the oem breather all i need is a elbow to mate it the the airbox.

Ok, so with oil coming out the airbox on a 250 hour+ machine without knowing the history, would I first put the breather mod on, then see if it improves before doing the rebuild (damn expensive!)?

I would like to do a rebuild later on, so I assume that this mod would then simply stay and benefit the bike?

What are you really referring to as being "damn expensive!", the breather mod or the piston kit and gaskets for a top end ?

I have purchased the ProX piston kit for about $135.00 and the "Athena" top end overhaul gasket set for as little as $28.00.

The engine that I did this top end on had 112.5 hours and the ring end gap was 3 times the allowable spec.

The only thing that will stop excessive blowby in a high hours/mileage engine with only 1 compression ring is keeping the top end fresh with new rings.

You will need a piston and rings with those hours and blowby. Not doing it now might prove to be a mistake.

As Campbell says above. Lets face it, there's no question about it. That would prove to be a mistake that would answer my question what would be "damn expensive".

So I am right in saying that the DMD system is only a breather - it does not have a catch-can and oil return like the Zipty. Why did they go this rather clumsy route? In essence just an elbow fitting into the rocker gasket would then suffice? Sorry I am coming to this a bit late as I have been off this forum for awhile and only really familiar with the Zipty system that we pioneered here for the G450X.

That's all it is Dom. It is a $100.00 relocated breather. Quality is very high for either the Original ZipTy breather or the DMD breathers.

I installed 1 myself on my recent G450 engine overhaul. But its set up correctly with my breather recovery tank.

It does kind of make more sense to cut up and ruin a rocker cover gasket that you can replace for $35.00 or so to easily return it back to stock.

Instead of permanently drilling a hole in the valve cover like you have to do for the ZipTy breather that's half the cost at $48.00. But why would you want to return it to stock?

Then again, when you get down to it. I can buy a perfectly good used G450 valve cover for 30.00 on ebay and just tig weld a piece of tubing for the breather hose to it like all the other bikes have. A brand new rocker cover lists for about $60.00

Zipty breather and return fitting and an eBay go-cart catch-can sorted me.

    Simple is good Dom.
I like that set up and it didn't break the bank.
I agree there's no point in just doing a breather mod alone.
The only way to do this is put your mind to work to come up with a system to capture the oil in the vapor rich breather gasses and return it back to the engine.

Just trying to sort out a breather set up for mine at the moment and in fear of sounding stupid i have a question for you guys....

When using the Zipty oil return, doesn't the crankcase pressure/blow by vent through this? pushing oil up into your catch tank?

Not at all, as long as the engine is vented up high through a relocated breather when it gets is moved to the top of the engine to the rocker box/valve cover.

    Sweet, thanks again Tim.

Anyone tried returning the oil via the original breather point?

Yes that can be done, but to get it to work effectively the mating surfaces of the 2 center cases need to have a small notch cut on one side or the other to let the oil escape from the cavity that is formed by the 2 cases when assembled. This will allow any residual oil to drain away from that area onto the lay shafts gears in the transmission. You need to also build up the floor about half way in this casting cavity with epoxy.

Otherwise the lowest point in the cavity that the oil settles in cast into the cases will eventually fill with dirty carbon/sediment from the oil and there is no access or any other way for it to be cleaned out of that cavity. As it is from the factory, without doing these necessary mods the only exit path for any return oil to escape this cavity is to the area just behind the Torque Limiters inner bearing. Keep in mind if the engine is running it still has a positive vent pressure on this vent cavity as well. It may be greatly reduced with the breather now venting most of the gasses out the valve covers breather but none the less its still positive.

Also keep in mind. This inner TL bearing is factory sealed as installed ( I have always recommended that those red/orange seals be removed to increase bearing life during replacement). So consequently there really is nowhere for the oil to go except for the level in that cavity to be high enough for it to exit back through the center of the torque limiters hollow shaft through and out between the plates of the Torque Limiter. Against a positive pressure that's keeping that from happening. This isn't going to work very well trust me.

Epoxying and raising the floor of the breather vapor vents cast in cavity and either die grinding or milling a relief notch for a place for the oil to exit into the transmissions gear box area is the only way to make the factory oil vent fitting a good place to return the breathers oil. If you think about it. Ideally the best place to get the oil returned to is as close as you can get to the actual oil sump where the Eaton pressure pumps pickup can draw upon its volume of oil to feed the engine.

Simply stated any oil returned is a good thing, as it reduces oil loss. However returning it to an area that that makes it basically useless since it can't be effectively used because it has a tough time getting it to flow back to the area of the pump is like returning it to a catch can or out on the ground. It has little benefit.

Thanks Tim - was referring to the rebuild (very pricy to do here through bmw), but could you help in pointing out what is required to do the top end as you say, and where can I source the parts? Have to ship them to South Africa so would prefer a one stop supplier if possible?

    Thanks!

PM at David Bates, he made first the breathers for the Husqy and then with the help from Joe the breather for the G450X and the CCM GP450.

Im so sorry guy's! I should have been monitoring this thread more often but life has been hectic with work and bikes.
Trying to get one sorted for ADB magazine.

We can still get more produced and the ccm breather is the same as BMW but black.
THE RED HUSQ 449/511 WILL NOT FIT BMW AND CCM!!!!
Inside and everything else is the same.
We need to get a few people wanting one because there is a minimum order from the machinist.
Please if anyone needs fast response regarding them just FB message me Joe Bacon
