New MOT Regs now say bikes fitted with aftermarket HID kits will fail, even if their beam pattern is OK, I'm gutted! Back to the drawing board.

That's a shame. The government regulators seem to have a lot of time on their hands if this is the best they can do.

Not really, since I had a hand in writing an earlier version (in the Stone Age) they were getting too complicated as new technology has been introduced. However I guess current authors aren't motorcyclists and haven't ridden at night against ultra bright car lights on a twisty country road! I'll be making my views known, but doubt there will be any amendments for some time until they've settled in before there will be a more general review of their effectiveness.

That's only about HIDs, or LEDs fall under this policy as well?

I didn't see any reference to LED conversions so apparently they haven't caught up yet. But no doubt in a few years they will also be banned. (I'm keeping my HID conversion and will revert to glow-worms for the MOT.)
