Dominator head pipes in S/S for the G450X are now available. Don't seem to be on their website as yet.

Campbell, does this replace the stock head pipe? I am running a FMF 4.1 titanium exhaust and my stock header is pretty banged up...

    Andy,
It will certainly work with your FMF, you would need to contact them re dimensions. It may have the same dimensions as the stock head pipe or it may be more inline with the offerings from Akropovic/Remus/Leo Vince/Arrow etc. I don't have the stock head pipe dimensions (could measure and post up) but for reference the Akro head pipe is 40.5mm I.D and has a length through the centreline of 585mm. The I.D is the same right through until 20mm before the connection with the muffler, where it flares out to match the mid pipe I.D - ie it does not run a gasket. These measurements are from the non resonator head pipe, but my resonator style head pipe (RIP) had the same dimensions. Length through the centerline measured from cylinder head end to flange at connection with muffler/mid pipe.

I thought it was worth bringing the availability to the groups attention given they would be more durable than the stock item and the outrageous prices being asked for second hand items on the net.

    Cheers
    Campbell

I wonder why the photo shows it with a dent in it - does it need this for clearance (don't think so)

Dom, both my stock headpipe and the Leo Vince' headpipe have that same dent. Its there to clear the front diagonal frame tube as seen in the picture.

The headpipe pictured on the bike here is the Leo Vince". Although the Leo Vince" headpipe has a little bit of a different bend angle in the front section coming off the cylinder flange and has direct butt welded joints to join the individual sections of the mandrel bends together. You can see the factory pipe has sort of a short area that is swedged or flared out to butt the 2 sections together for the weld joint. The Leo is done in 3 pieces. The factory is 2 pieces and the Dominator is also 2 pieces. It is very much the same as the stock headpipe.

The Leo headpipe also lacks the short ring on the outlet end that keeps the slip on tailpipe from sliding on past the flanged area. Which is similar to the Dominator headpipe.

The last picture is of the Akropovic headpipe. It's basically made up from 6 pieces,(the tail end slip joint is 2 of the pieces) Since it's made up of more pieces the pipe doesn't need to have the frame clearance dent and has a smaller overall outside diameter along its entire length all the way down to where it flares out just before the rear slip joint. It has a bit of a different shape of its own, that doesn't drop down at an angle below the cylinder's flange. It drops down straighter doesn't go quite as low and is level between the 2 radiused sections.

I believe by comparing all of these with the Dominator headpipe in the picture of it. The Dominator headpipe is a bit smaller (approx.1/8") outside diameter just like the Akropovic headpipe is but has the design and shape of the stock headpipe. It's made with only 2 pieces then the diameter increases in right at the tail end where the slip joint is so all stock and aftermarket slip-on tailpipe mufflers will fit it.

Surprised to see someone coming it with this. Rarer bike and made years ago.

I wonder if they would be interested in making a rally low slung header? Make for an affordable alternative to the Berrt one.
