Wow, I didn't expect this forum to be politically, so active. I believe the best way to handle the Trump phenomena is to recognize why he is so attractive to a faction of America. Those who see the current demands on Americans by evolving technology, and a swelling population of foreigners, many who don't look like us, or don't believe in an traditional religion we accept, those who don't even eat our usual diet give us anxiety for the future. These xenophobic Americans don't want to be pushed off their bubble of behavior and they worry that the horde will overtake them and steal their country. The vast middle ground is honestly concerned, and will accept the devil they know over the devil they create in their mind. They will decide our country's future, not the far left, not the far right. Heaven help us all when the fringe don't get their way.

You are right. The problem that I have is that the politicians on both sides of the "isle" keep stirring the pot so as to make points with what they believe is their "base", thereby just making thing worse. And of course, anonymous people and "bots" on the internet who will not take responsibility for their comments by posting their real names also drive everyone further apart. It is a mess and I don't have a solution how to stop it when the herd starts to stampede.

The Forum was designed to have this section to voice ideas and subjects that were not motorcycle oriented while not subjecting the rest of the Forum to be involved if they choose not to. It is here and only here that politics, religion, off color jokes and such are allowed. It works and is a popular section in the forum. It allows the rest of the forum to go about their business and allows a greater level of freedom of speech for everyone.

Well said Philip.
I own and ride an FGT but I dont know anything or want to know anything about bikes apart from "what colour is it?", I know a man who fixes bikes! Without this section I'd have nothing to say. So long may it remain free from restriction.

Billy : Hey, man. All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs a haircut. George Hanson : Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom. Billy : What the hell is wrong with freedom? That's what it's all about. George Hanson : Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different thangs. I mean, it's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em.

What is freedom? One mans freedom is another mans hell. Easy Rider is a distant memory, was more of a Monty Python person

Richard, you've been reading my mail (credit Kris Kristofferson for that line). I don't have an answer either. My father got his degree in political science from Bowdin just before WWII. He spent a lot of time explaining the issues around the great depression, our and Europe's reactions, and politics in general of that time. He was a career officer and a humble man but he was sure to tell anyone that we entered WWII to get us out of the depression and unite our country (on the verge of communist ideals taking over here). It almost came to class warfare here and the war stopped that in it's tracks. Could the same formula work again? Just something to think about. He respected FDR for doing what he had to keep America a democracy. Best advise is to find honest politicians (oxymoron) and go with them over party or ideals. His faith in God and America was more important than his pocketbook.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that " my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov
