The region I live in is surronded by the closed areas, so we are "isolated" too.
Yesterday I went for a hike near Portofino, just to train a little and not to spend all day in the city, and the first one I saw on the trail had a milan accent... A colleague (is this word correctly written?) reported that many people from Milan and nearby areas have been spotted here, this is a turistic zone, and there are lots of "second homes"
A couple of days ago, I happened to hear an elderly woman saying something like this: "...but can't they stay at their places, well, not to be racist..." It sounded funny, because here racism is always been (so far) against southern Italy, and not among people living in the north.
Also have been spotted writings that say: no rent available for people from Milan.
I must admit that all this thing it doesn't look so fun, now

Yesterday it was announced on the news that Stanford and Washington Universities have shut down classes until the end of the current quarters and will be offering their classes only on-line. In California, one of the largest K-12 school districts in the state, Elk Grove School District (near Sacramento), is shuttering all of its schools for the next week and moving their "spring break" to the week following that. All of these actions are being taken "out of an abundance of caution" - which is what politicians always say when they are doing something that they are not sure will actually do anything, other than cause public disruption.

Meanwhile the floating quarantined cruise ship, The Grand Princess, with 3,500 people aboard, will be docking at Oakland, CA on Monday. The news is asking why is it not docking at San Francisco which has the better medical facilities? My thought is that it has to do with political influence and of the two women mayors that run the two cities, SF's mayor has the bigger balls. After all, who wants a bunch of zombies dumped onto their shores?

I note that Trump has said that if he had his way he would keep the ship at sea until everyone is cured (or dies?). My recommendation is that if you are feeling sick don't let anyone know.

So that you can spread the virus? Here happened just that...
By the way, good fellows Austria and Tschek Republic say they will be doing tests at the border with Italy, and that italian tourists will not be accepted.... it seems to me that they're forgetting Germany (with whom the both of them share a border...), after all, the contagion apparently started there...

Just trying to make light of the situation. The news media beating the drum about the virus is starting to get to me. Surely there must be some other news than that? They even have recommendations on how to survive the virus scrolling across the screen for the entire news program.

There are people around here who in panic mode, although there is no indication that they are sick, know anyone who is sick, or might be sick, or know anyone who ever met anyone who might have been sick. Everyone continues to run around buying rice, water, toilet paper, disposable wipes, soap and everything else that isn't nailed down, presumably just in case they might have to stay in their homes for two weeks and can't get to the local McDonald's for their meals.

Meanwhile, my daughter just paid a $6,000 bill for my granddaughter's next quarter's worth of education at UC Santa Cruz. I just heard that there was one confirmed case of a person having caught the virus in the entire Santa Cruz county. I sure hope they don't shut down the University because of that. I know that her money won't be returned if that happens.

The county that I live in has a population of 730,000. It was reported today that there are two confirmed cases of the virus in the entire county. Time to panic. Several schools in the county are being shut down for the next two weeks in order to protect their students. I wonder what happens after the two weeks are over? The virus goes away?

The county that my daughter and her family lives in, Marin County, has a population of 261,000 and has one confirmed case so far.

It is amazing how many impacts on the economy that the virus scare is having. Last night crude oil prices dropped 30% due to expected lack of demand, especially by China, caused by the crisis and a price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. This is causing the world financial markets to drop up to 8% this morning. The U.S. stock market is frozen at a drop of 1200 points right now in the hopes that investor panic will cool off later today. (Not if the news media can help it. )

Another impact is that many large tech companies (including the local NASA facility) are telling their employees to stay home and work on-line from there if at all possible. But that is having an impact on the contract workers that support these companies and provide services to those workers, such as food vendors, bus drivers, janitors, and the like, who are being temporarily laid off, which is impacting their meager incomes. It is getting to be a tough situation, for sure.

This morning it is reported that San Francisco is closing all of its nonessential school functions for the next two weeks, along with all events at public buildings that would result in more than 50 people being near each other.

Meanwhile, the news media is reporting on the minute-by-minute travels of the cruise ship with 3500 people aboard that are impacted by the virus, as it inches toward the SF Bay toward the dock at Oakland. They say it will be a close call getting the 110-foot tall ship under the 120-foot height of the Golden Gate Bridge. This report should result in a mob of spectators and TV news crews rushing to the bridge to see the spectacle of its arrival. And so it goes.....

I heard on the news today that the Governor of New York State has declared an Emergency due to 8 people being discovered with confirmed cases of the virus. (Time to Panic!) Then it was reported that something like 30,000 people had the regular flu so far this winter in his state without him declaring an Emergency. Kind of strange. I wonder if it has anything to do with the $8.3 billion that Congress has just appropriated to fight the corona virus?

Meanwhile politicians are cutting back on kissing babies and accepting cash payments under the table. You just never know what you can catch from babies or from dirty money.

I live in the south end of King County, WA State, the county that includes Seattle. This area is, unfortunately. "Ground Zero" for the coronavirus issue in the US. When I posted last Wednesday, WA State had 39 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. Five days later we have 169 cases with 39 deaths. Just do the math, this is very serious.

Today my wife wanted to go into town to get materials to make hand sanitizer at home. After picking up some Aloe Vera for a base, she was looking for alcohol to add to do the job of killing germs a virus. I went to the liquor store and picked up a half gallon of Ever-clear grain alcohol at 190 proof. After adding a drop of cinnamon oil and the aloe vera. I added about 3/4 of the ever-clear to what ever bottle she had. Nothing should get past this concoction.

Oh, and pure ever-clear used as a fuel additive to the bike..........!!!!

Things are already getting more serious, I haven't seen any zombie so far, but when I went to work this morning, I've spotted only few human beings, busses (and trains, as far as I know) were almost empty. Plus 2 collegues of mine stayed ad home, hope it's only a "normal" flu, or a cold
From now, finger crossed, or, as we say (and do), hands on your crotch (your own, not someone elses). Ancient romans used to say: "Taesticula tactis, omia pericula fugata sunt (Testicols touched, every danger go away): we care about our traditions

In today's SF Bay Area virus news, the Giant Princess cruise ship docked in Oakland yesterday and about 600 people have been let off the ship so far (with another 1500 or so to go). They will be inspected and then shipped off for more quarantine fun. However, what I found interesting is that a number of spectators, news people and (naturally) lawyers are lined up to greet (but not touch) them. There has already been one lawsuit filed on behalf of one of the passengers and reports are that it should be a lawyer feeding frenzy looking for big cash payments from the Princess cruise company. And of course, the lawyers typically get 40% of the settlement in lawsuit-happy California.

The local news this morning reported that in-person classes would be closed at UC Santa Cruz (where my youngest granddaughter attends school) starting today. Oddly, that announcement was made the day after the deadline for paying the tuition, housing and other fees for the upcoming Spring quarter. (My daughter just paid her daughter's bill of almost $6,000, which did not include dining hall meals.) There is one confirmed virus victim in the entire county where the University is located.

That announcement was followed by an interview with Santa Clara County's Health Officer who said that there is no evidence that closing schools and large events does anything to prevent the spread of the virus.

And that report was followed by another interview with a lawyer implying that if companies didn't take measures to keep their employees and customers safe during the corona virus emergency they could be sued if someone gets sick.

Finally, it was announced that the San Francisco Catholic Archdiocese would be closing all 90 (who knew there were so many?) schools in three counties for the next two weeks because one of their students in one school in San Francisco tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile I keep wondering what happens after these two-week shutdowns end?

It'll do, believe me... the incubation period is about 2 weeks, and in 2 weeks one can infect lots of people, just staying close and exhaling in a closed room for approx. 15 minutes. So, the best way to avoid the spreading, is to stay at home, or actually, avoid contact and/or nearness with people: remember that not everyone shows the symptoms from the beginning.
So again, stay at home, have a stroll with your dog and so on, but please avoid other people, even apparently in good health, and crowded places

I can bet, that government is ready to approve a mass screening via giant size anal probes...
By the way, what about a trip to Italy? After all, prices are going down

And a few minutes ago a commentator on the radio was commenting (that is what commentators do best) on what happens to the children that can't go to school and have to stay at home, when their parents have to work to make enough money to live in the very expensive SF Bay Area? The response was that they will get sent to their grandparents to look after them. Just what you want to do when kids pick up every disease known to man and the grandparents have the least resistance to the Corona virus.

    And so it goes......

Did he provide a definition of what is a public event? Such as attending a city council meeting? Or visiting a Costco Store to pick up toilet paper and bottled water? How about homeless encampments? Hopefully, it doesn't include BMW rallies.

The news today is reporting that public transit usage, and in particular BART, is way down. According to the report is was even possible to sit down on a BART train this week that already wasn't occupied by a sleeping homeless person laying across both seats.

I live in WA State (Seattle area) and I've been updating information on the coronavirus here for the past few days. Governor Inslee just brought some shed some light on your question. He just said that any public gathering of 250 or more people is illegal in King, Pierce and Snohomish countries (this is essentially the Seattle Metro area). King County followed that up by making 100 or more illegal. Stores are exempt, so Costco would fall into that. I don't know about city council meetings or homeless encampments, but any m/c rallies here would generally occur well-away from these three counties. Here are some sobering numbers: one week ago the coronavirus total was 39 infected/ 10 dead. As of 2 pm today (03/11) the count is 367/30. This is a huge increase.

Any gathering over 250 people I believe, including Church. He stated that it effects older people more. He stated "it will kill your grandpa", he relayed to the younger people not concerned. Research how many have died in Washington to date.

Yep, Tom Hanks has been isolated on a beach with Wilson again, Rita Wilson, that is.
That's how the news broadcast finished the item off.

Mind you, it's probably in some swanky hotel on the Gold Coast. I could think of a worse place for it to happen, like a cruise ship.

Trump put a ban on all travel coming from Europe, except the UK. Puzzling until you remember that he has a golf course in Scotland.

I just heard that both Ireland and France will be completely shut down by their governments, just like was done in Italy, until March 29. Not sure what happens after that.

Meanwhile the UK and Boris is ignoring the virus and mostly cruising right along as normal, according to an interview today with a reporter in Dublin. Even the toilet paper is being manufactured as fast as it is purchased.

Just waiting for the announcement whether the F1 Grand Prix is going to happen. Practice is due to begin in about an hour. Rumour has it that the event may go ahead but without spectators. Expect riots as crowds are already waiting at the gates to get in. Gonna be an interesting day, Albert Park is just a couple of miles away from our place, might have to man the barricades!
On a more serious note, I am a bit concerned. Thanks to Lymphoma and five years of treatment, my immunity status is crap, I am officially "elderly", I attend lots of crowd events, we get daily visits from my partner's grandkids and their mother who is a GP, and we are running out of hand steriliser. Prefer fighting enemies I can actually see...

My friend sent a message earlier that a member of the Mclaren team has the virus and the team was going to pull out of the race....The rules have stated that if one team pulls, there isn't suppose to be a race.
