On a more serious note, I am a bit concerned. Thanks to Lymphoma and five years of treatment, my immunity status is crap, I am officially "elderly", I attend lots of crowd events, we get daily visits from my partner's grandkids and their mother who is a GP, and we are running out of hand steriliser. Prefer fighting enemies I can actually see...
Ian, it would be a bit of a problem for you. My immune system is still not 100 percent and I've been thinking about it all. I'm supposed to go for an oncology checkup in a couple of weeks, but seriously considering skipping it, as I don't want to have the remotest chance of taking anything into the oncology ward. I'm only around the block from work, but lately, I've been taking the longer way around the block(extra 30 metres) so I don't have to walk past the community health centre with patients walking in and out all the time.

Come on, Phil, he has addressed the nation about this "foreign" virus. What more could you ask for from Potus?

Did you happen to see Trump and Pence standing next to the President of a South American country recently who later was found to have the Corona virus? Trump says that neither of them plan to be tested to see if they have the virus. Since both the President and VP are over 60 and in the high-risk group, maybe we will see a change in administration quicker than expected.

My son-in-law sent me this information regarding the virus which seems reasonable, but I will let you decide if it is correct:

    *IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT* - CORONAVIRUS --

    1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.

    2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.

    3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.

    4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.

    5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.

    6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.

    7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.

    8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.

    9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.

    10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water!

    *THE SYMPTOMS*

    1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days

    2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.

    3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.

    4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases:
Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous.

Was in my local grocery store this afternoon and they had plenty of toilet paper and sanitizer. They were crowded but they always are on a Friday. Didn't see anybody stocking up on anything. They had Jameson Irish whisky on sale and I stocked up.

I went to my local Safeway this morning and the lines were very long with only three registers open and for some reason all of the self-help registers were closed. It looked to me that most people were stocking up for a two-week internment. All I bought was one of their 11" diameter $5 apple pies that were on sale today.

My daughter has just been notified by the University of California, Santa Cruz, where my granddaughter is receiving her expensive education that next quarter the school's classes will be provided via the internet and they can take their classes at home, if they wish. Still, no one has reported being sick at the University, but I guess they just want to jump on the "bandwagon".

In today's virus news: Trump has been tested for the virus and says he is virus-free. (Could be fake news, though. ) Trump is also suspending all travel to the UK and Ireland for the next 30 days. (Just to make the EU feel better?)

My granddaughter is now home and will be staying there until the UCSC fall quarter starts. The students attending UC Santa Cruz were told that if they leave campus during the next three weeks, not to return - so she left. Winter quarter finals will be taken online, as well as all classes during the spring quarter, which ends in June. At least that saves my daughter $1,000 a month in on-campus housing costs. Her father picked her up yesterday evening and somehow managed to pack all of her belongings into his 1988 Honda CRX (AKA The Crappy Honda). Photo attached of her saying goodby to campus life.

Still no confirmed cases in my neck of the woods but several just 40 miles to the west. I know it's just a matter of time.

    Whitehouse said Trump tested negative.

I was hoping for a more positive outcome......

I saw a report today that Americans aren't stockpiling toilet paper, like here in Aus, they're stockpiling guns instead. on both counts.

The Governor of Illinois has just shut down all bars and restaurants. Only drive through windows will be allowed to serve food. Haven't found out how long this will last. I have a good friend with a small coffee shop and I feel bad for her. Hoping she works out a way to serve to-go only.

I visited Alice's Restaurant for breakfast today. Last night San Mateo County health officials passed a regulation that customers in a business, like a restaurant, can not sit closer than 6 feet to each other and groups are limited to between 10 and 50 people in each room, depending upon the size of the room. It even includes outdoor seating. That regulation went into effect today. The restaurant owner is very worried that he might not be able to stay open much longer, as he has no idea how he could comply with that directive, what will all of his tables being about 3 feet wide and/or have booth seating. Today he was just doing things as usual until he is told not to. He is also worried about his employees loosing their jobs and income if he is forced to shut down or only serve takeout meals.

Some fast food restaurants around here are closing their dining rooms and just keeping their drive-thru windows open. Every place has "help wanted" signs out, but I don't know how long that help is going to be needed.

And in San Francisco, they are shutting down their public libraries and turning them in to daycare facilities. All public schools in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose are closed, but instead of educating their students they are partially open and serving breakfast and lunch to the students.

Our Illustrious California Governor held a news conference today and said that, in order to combat the Corona virus, he would be directing that all bars, wineries and breweries be closed and he wants all seniors (like me) over 65 to lock themselves in their homes and not come out until the virus goes away. Give me a break! He also is demanding that restaurants remove half of their tables and chairs to increase the distance between their customers. BTW, good luck closing bars on St. Patrick's Day.

Good luck with that. I bet the Irish bring their St. Patrick's Day celebrations to the streets.

I'll let you know tomoorow, but all the Paddy Day parades were cancelled by the end of last week, I can tell you only supermarkets and a few other shops are open. I was able to buy a chimney brush. What a bloody time to have chimney problems - even though it was cleaned a month ago! Life has to go on. Boris in the UK says those over 70 should expect to isolate themselves for up to 4months. FFS!

Today the entire 7 million people of the SF Bay Area counties have been ordered to stay at home until April 7 unless we are traveling to an essential service, like buying groceries, going to the bank, post office or a gas station. Oh yes, you can also walk your dog so that he can poop on someone else's property. I have no idea how I am going to last that long without leaving my home and riding my motorcycle. If you get caught you will receive a citation.

Buy groceries, go to the bank and post office on your motorcycle. Buy stamps in Colorado.
