Hi All,
I thought I would share this. I've had a G450X for exactly 2 years now and have done nearly 17000 kms on it. I really like the bike and am allways impressed with the way it rides. After this amount of use however there is some good and bad stuff with it I have noticed, first the bad.
It does use a little oil on ocasion and it always needs to be checked
The rear swing arm shaft seal leaks a little oil on the non sprocket side
The engine takes a bit of cranking in the morning to start - especialy when its a cold day
At low RPM the engine surges a bit making it a handfull in slow traffic
The good stuff
The suspension didn't fade very much - it still feels great
The power out put is still fantastic
There isn't anything on the market at the moment that matches the 450, it's still unique!!

BMWgBanger, this is great news.
Can you give an indication of what was replaced during this period, valves, rings piston etc.
Would be appreciated.

To say my 2010 G450X is new is an understatement. With 20 OHs and 1018 kms on the clock, no off road use at all the problem i have is remarkable i think:
The odometer seems to have been possessed by devils. It displays totally incorrect reading all the time, even at standstill sometimes it shows speeds ranging from 0 to 36kmh. At normal riding speeds it sometimes shows 0kmh. Even the trip recorder is showing crazy and incorrect mileage.
This is the least of my problems
I cannot turn off the ignition. I can turn off the engine but the lights/electricals stay on and i have to remove the battery terminal to switch it off.
I am in contact with my BMW distributor and it is under warranty but i would be interested to know if anyone has had the same problem. I hope i have not inadvertently bought the one bike off the productionline that was manufactured on a friday...or worse.

remove the pin from the headlight push switch to allow the lights to be turned off fully
when starting the bike to wake up the electronics turn on headlight and flash the high beam and you will hear the bike prime the engine with fuel etc.
this mod take 10 seconds and saves the battery loads

Hi All,
Further to my last post, in the time I've had my 450 the parts that needed replacing total one headlight bulb and both tyres - that's basically it! I get BMW to service it every 30 - 50 hours and once a fortnight or there about I strip it down to clean it thoroughly and spray WD40 all over it. The bike has never been off road as I have other bikes that fulfil that need for me. The engine in my one still pulls strong and to this day has never been apart. Admittedly it's a bit of a waste using it as a commuter, but I'm comfortable on it and riding it to and from the office daily is the highlight of my day.
