Speaking of beer: I just saw a report on the 5pm San Francisco Channel 5 TV news that the SF Giants are selling empty Budweiser beer cans that they drank in the locker room for $69 each. You definitely need to add a few of those to your empty beer can collection. Go Giants!

Phil, now that Oregon has legalized recreational marijuana (and Colorado and Washington) should we now start a "What are you smoking" thread?

I had a pint of my favourite tipple, Theakstons Old Peculiar, 5.6ABV, on draught at The Queens Head, Kettlesing, Yorkshire - the best pint I've drunk since the last time about 3yrs ago. It's frequented by many American servicemen from Menwith Hill, I'm not giving out any secrets - you can see the 'golf balls' for bloody miles!

Good on you Antony, do you like trying different beers from over the world? The bottled OP is slightly different, there's a slight bitter after taste, it's not quite the same as the draught version which is smooth and a little sweeter without the after taste. I'm sorry to say, Yorkshire is the only place to get a decent OP on draught, I hear it doesn't travel well. Have you had a Baileys Irish Cream Antony, when you've drunk the first it's moreish so you want another. Theakstons Old Peculiar has the same effect as it's so smooth, I used to get totally bladdered after a few pints, one pint's enough these days just to enjoy the experience.

If you're interested look for Harrogate, UK in Google Earth, take the A59 west of the city about 10miles, the pub is slightly North in Kettlesing-Bottom (marked with a wine glass) and Menwith Hill is a mile or two further East for all to see .

I can't find Harrogate, My darn navi keeps pointing to the ocean!

Terry, I would guess what I have in a bottle is nothing like what you get on tap near the source. To me imports in general have a chemical'ish after taste which I assume is due to the preservatives to help them travel. The O.P. here has a nice smooth malt hit at first but that fades quickly. I'd like to have the real version someday as I guess it's much better. Even so,I like to grab some every once in a while as I like that toffee fore taste.

If I find this place you can bet one pint wont be enough!

Over the weekend my daughter attended a seminar discussing how to make soda by fermenting fruit juice. Why would anyone want to ferment fruit juice, anyway? I would prefer to just drink it instead of watching it make little bubbles while it was fermenting for a few days. One more thing I don't understand. I guess I am just not with the program.

No, one pint wouldn't be enough, best to arrange a nominated driver for afterwards. I'm sure you are right about the chemical preservatives, they never taste the same. I'm not a Guinness drinker but I have had occasionally and the bottled version only faintly resembles the original draught version.

On another note, Meteor I can't believe this day has come but I can't stomach another drop of PumpKing ale, one of my long time favorites. Something of how they made it this year just got to me and now causes some revulsion.
I'm now hooked on Mermaid's Red ale. Hoppy reds are indeed my favorite.

Had this for the first time last night. I was always afraid of it due to it's very high alcohol and IBU(bitterness) content. It was terrific. MY new favorite... for now at least.

Southern Tier has been consistently great.

Had this for the first time last night. I was always afraid of it due to it's very high alcohol and IBU(bitterness) content. It was terrific. MY new favorite... for now at least.

Southern Tier has been consistently great.
That looks delicious Antony, I can smell the hops from here!

Milk from the Goddesses breast my friend.
Four types of hops and plenty of them without being overly bitter...sigh..

Making a Yankee pot roast which calls for hard cider to deglaze the pan. Picked up some Johnny Appleseed Hard Cider. Not a bad change of pace.

Cute, except they never got the memo US craft brews are as strong as wine

My favorite Imperial IPA will be consumed during the game in excess!

very true... I had a Troeg's yesterday which was something like 7.1%.

For the record, I had couple Sam Adams Cold Snaps during the game. Still in shock the Seahawks didn't just hand the ball to Lynch. Will be one of those calls that will go down in history.
