Ah yes. BMW's most aerodynamic production motorcycle and the one that they couldn't sell very many of. Very few people with the money to buy one liked the looks and lack of luggage capacity. A year later after the K1 came out, I bought a 4-valve K100RS, which sold well and looked much better, although the handling sucked and the engine surged. Both irritations were resolved with a new shock and a new FI chip and exhaust system. After 65,000 miles it still had the original brake pads and had never needed a valve adjustment - although the Paralever shaft drive broke at 45,000 miles and had to be repaired to the tune of $1200. I traded it in on my FZ1, which was lighter, more powerful and handled better. The poor Yamaha dealer that took the bike in for trade had it on the showroom floor for 3 years, until the shop manager bought it as a commute bike. He told me that he loved the bike but hated the tickets that he got when commuting from the Sacramento Valley on the freeway at high speed.

I distinctly remember seeing one of these parked right alongside a GSX 1100F Katana, back when both bikes were new. Took a lot of effort on the part of BMW "designers" to make the "fat Kat" look light, graceful, athletic. It's a talent!

Beauty is in the eye of the holder I suppose. I've never been a fan of Suzuki motorcycles. Year after year, they seem to always look like a bunch of aftermarket bits hung on a plain Jane frame. Reminds me of a teenager's Mazda with a bunch of aftermarket fender flares, hood scoops and funky lights. Declasse?
