Hi all, my good friend Niklaus at NL Designs has done a deal with the original manufacturers of the Speedbrain Rally Tanks. They will do another batch so we need some idea of numbers...

The kit will consist of the following:
    - 30L polyethylene tank
    - stainless mounting hardware
    - grab handles
    - rear fender
The OEM seat may be able to be modified however the original kits were designed to work with a Blackbird seat.

Cost has been quoted as €1019.-- plus shipping.

If you are like me and always regretted not grabbing one of these while I had the chance......now is your chance!
Please let me know if you are keen so we can organise enough of them. My mate has one of these on his bike and they are an awesome bit of kit!

    Cheers,
    Chris

Unbelievable, half a year ago I asked and no chance.
So what will be the price?
    I would take one.

The exhaust system will be no problem. I can order them as a reseller. Maybe we could get a good price.

Probably enough inquiries to make it worth their while to break the mold out again.
It would be awesome to get pictures of the mold and process of tanks being built, little factory behind the scenes

May I introduce myself, I am Bert Duursma, former BMW Motorrad dealer (2000-2009). Since 2010 I run an offroad trainingacademy for GS riders. I am certified as BMW Offroad Instructor and run trainings in the Netherlands and in BMW Enduropark Hechlingen.

In 2009 Dutch Dakar rally ace Frans Verhoeven contacted me as he was interested to ride Dakar 2010 on a G450X.
A plan was made and sponsors attracted, main sponsor was BMW Netherlands. As the stock G450 wasn't suitable for Dakar, Frans and myself made a plan for converting the G450X into a competitive Dakar machine.
The idea for a single fueltank, close to the CoG of the bike came from Frans. It was my job to finance and manage the development project. To do this job, I hired ao Jos van Bergen to work on the prototype, make the moulds etc. He is a genius and did an excellent job, together with the tank manufacturer and a small company called Startwin where the drawings were made.
Dakar 2010 was the first time the tank was used. Because Frans Verhoeven won the 11th stage, a lot of interest was attracted. Soon after Dakar 2010, Frans and myself were invited by Speedbrain to discuss a Dakar project with involvement of BMW where "our" G450 concept would have to play a major role.
So it happened that the Speedbrain-BMW Dakar team used our kit in various rallies and also in Dakar 2011, with 4 riders (Frans Verhoeven, Goncalves and 2 others)
Speedbrain sold these rallykits all over the world. The kits were supplied to Speedbrain through my company. The intellectual property rights of the kit are with myself and Frans Verhoeven, the original investors in this project.
In 2012 Speedbrain pulled the plug, and production came to a halt.
Recently we received various orders for tankkits, so after 3 or 4 years of silence, we started up production again.

Bert, Thanks so much for joining up to our Forum. Many of us have moved on to other bikes to trail ride. Even myself to an FE501 Husky 2015 model. My G450X just sits. Pretty much now all the time. But its a rocky high desert Arizona bike and a rally kit would just get destroyed on it here where I ride personally. Many of the members on here however have a rally set up interest.

So you taking your time to join up is paramount in this happening and making these components and parts available is greatly appreciated. The cost of one of these bikes from Speedbrain is tremendous. So is the interest in doing this full on conversion to many of us do it yourselfers right here on this Forum.

I can speak for everyone of these people who want to do the conversion myself. Yet I keep mine to be bashed and crashed in the rocks of the high desert. Mine has a few mods too. 449 TC Husky engine currently installed, WP4860s and KTM Trees, wheel, etc. WP Trax rear shock. Just to name a few of its parts and pieces.

This Forum is what keeps this bike alive world wide as we are somewhat of a bunch of misfit fanatics, literally and we have a Globally active membership of these fanatics. It is here that these parts have been asked for by the members for a few years and you making it possible for them to start going back into production is greatly appreciated. We are your customers. We are at your Mercy as well. To bad most of us have to pay that fat "VAT" on top of the prices. But it is, what it is.

Thanks again for signing in and helping make this all possible.

Dank U, thanks Bert for joining us, I try for a long time to find the manufacturer and supplier for the special parts made for the G450RR. These parts are not more available, X-trigg, WP TRAX. Touratech, ...we hope that you will share your experience regarding the modifications done for the RR.

At the moment you cannot find anything re G450RR on my website. I am working on this right now.
I will also post pictures from Dakar 2011, as I was part of the Speedbrain-BMW team taking care of Frans.

Speedbrain-BMW teammanager Wolfgang Fischer agreed to let me take my own R1200GS to Argentina so I could experience the Dakar from the buddyseat of my GS. A dream came true!

Hi Bert, I also ride a GS, and have enjoyed owning and riding the "Rhino". Riding it while chasing the Dakar must have been a real "dream come true"!!
Thanks for going to the trouble of getting involved in the forum, your expertise and knowledge is very welcome, I hope it can generate some sales for you in return. After watching watching another edition of the Dakar I'm keen to finish my G450 properly with the full Rally set up.
I look forward to seeing the info on your web site.
    Regards
    Chris

Does anyone know if there is a graphic template for the 30 liter rally gas tank available?

I think there are some companies out there which will sell a whole kit. But I have a local graphic company here which do my front stickers already and the colors like blue and red are not always the same. So I need a template for the gas tank to produces my colors on the tank.

    Thank you for your help.

And this price, does it include shipping to South Africa?

Hi Rick, sorry mate no I don't.... it's been a while now. Pretty sure it was a couple of hundred dollars. I remember kicking myself that I didn't split the order up so that it all came in under the threshold. That's assuming you get the exhaust and bash plate as well as the tank...
I've put so much money into this bike that I try not to think about it LOL. The kit Bert puts together is very good quality though... I only had one issue, the bracket supplied to support the rear mud guard broke. But I was using the OEM inner fender/licence plate mount with the rear turn signals. I have since swapped it for a very light weight inner gender that has a built in brake light, and I won't be running turn signals any more. My mate did such a great job of patching up the broken bracket at this year's race that I'm leaving it the way it is! It's all reinforced with pieces of spare metal that we had in our kits, and some nylock nuts...... I love parts that remind me of the adventures we have with our mates...
Let me know if I can help with anything.
    Cheers
    Chris
