I just heard on the news that it was 116 degrees F in at least one location of British Columbia yesterday. Today the temperature might hit 118!.

I think I heard that it was 116 F in Portland, OR yesterday and 107 in Seattle. It is also hot in some areas of the Northeast U.S. I bet it is starting to feel like Global Warming to many people right now.

Meanwhile I am sitting at my desk looking out of my window at heavy fog, drizzle and a temperature of 53 degrees F. I haven't seen the sun in almost a week. I could use a little bit of that heat.

Ya, a real anomaly for Whiterock,,,,first time ever I wished I had air conditioning,,. Usually get by with windows and Ocean Breeze,,!!

Did 2500 KMs on the Ninja last week, Ill tell you I had enough by the time I got in,,. Great ride through some of the best twisties in the province but really tiring in the heat,,. Had 5 near misses with deer , all of them closer then anything I've ever experienced previously,,. The last one was just ten miles from home, big animals, could easily kill you,,!!

Newark hit 102F today - breaking a record of 100F. We were 97F at my place. Still early in the season and will be interesting to see what July brings

All of the people, plants and animals in that area must be really suffering.

Especially as I bet it is not a "dry heat" like they get in Arizona. I heard that was the highest temperature ever recorded above the 50th parallel.

Richard, the town your referring to is Lytton, B.C., it has broken the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada for a third straight day, hitting a scorching 49.6 C = 121.28 F on Tuesday. I stopped there for gas last Thurs, its always pretty hot and dry there,,. You need to keep moving, even filling up with gas is a traumatic experience, need a camelback accessory which i don't happen to have,.

The latest record was broken as a historic heat wave continues to scorch Western Canada, leading to a spike in sudden deaths in B.C. and dangerous wildfire conditions.

Lytton, a village in the Fraser Canyon located about 260 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, also saw record-breaking highs of 47.9 C on Monday and 46. 6 C on Sunday. Before this week, the highest temperature ever recorded in Canada was 45 C in Saskatchewan in 1937.

"It is so incredibly intense," said Bernie Fandrich, a Lytton resident and president of the local chamber of commerce. "It's a perpetual oven door open, and it's just too hot."

The community pool is closed due to technical issues and people have only a few air-conditioned coffee shops where they can seek refuge. Fandrich said the streets of the small village, which at last census count had under 250 residents, are virtually deserted.

"People are indoors and mind you, Lytton is usually not the centre of the universe anyway. But that's even less so now," he said, speaking to CBC Radio on Wednesday.

This week's heat wave has blown that previous record away. On Tuesday alone, seven locations in B.C. met or exceeded the 45 C mark, including Lytton, Cache Creek (47.4 C), Grand Forks (45 C), Kamloops (47.3 C), Kelowna (45.2 C), Lillooet (46.7 C) and Osoyoos (45 C).

The "heat dome" responsible for the unprecedented weather in Western Canada has now settled over British Columbia's Interior and parts of Alberta.

That weather has got to be really tough for the people who have to endure that level of heat for so long. Once or twice a year it gets up to 90 degrees F at my home and I find that really uncomfortable as I do not have AC and a fan doesn't help much. I can't even imagine what it would be like if the temperature went over 100 here for more than a day or two. My sympathies go out to the residents of Western Canada.

Wow! 49+C at a latitude of 50 degN defies comprehension. We get it pretty hot some places here in Oz, but I doubt our Lytton (near Brisbane, Queensland) would ever see 120 F, 49C and it's at 27 degS! How is your vegetation holding up? I hope this incredible run of drying heat doesn't increase the risk of forest fires as it would here.
Our 2021 fire season was not as bad overall as 2020, but we have had severe flooding and huge, damaging local storms locally (just for variety?).
Something weird is going on worldwide, seafronts advancing inland all over, tornados in England, floods in southern Europe, and so on. Climate change deniers, just step back and crunch the numbers - at this rate of change we will all be amphibians soon...

There happens to be a fire right now in that Lytton area,,. Overall the fire season has not been to bad yet but its dry and early, we had a dooser of a season 2 yrs back,,. Fire and smoke much of the summer from Alaska to Mexico, I think the 2019 season?

I just spent a few days at a friends house in Lucerne Valley Sunday and Monday the temps were 113. We took a drive up to Cima Dome in the Mojave Nat'l Monument. The Temps were down to 95 up near the top of the dome. Odd how refreshing 95 can seem when coming from 113 degrees.
Glad i was in a car with the AC going though.

More bad news for Lytton

A small B.C. village that endured the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Canada for days on end this week was engulfed in flames Wednesday night and residents were forced to flee, many without their belongings.

Mayor Jan Polderman says he told everyone to leave Lytton, as a fire rapidly spread into the community of about 250 people. He signed the official evacuation order at 6 p.m. PT.

"It's dire. The whole town is on fire," Polderman told CBC News. "It took, like, a whole 15 minutes from the first sign of smoke to, all of a sudden, there being fire everywhere."

He said he told residents to head for the nearby community of Boston Bar, and was on his way there himself. A reception centre has also been set up in Merritt to the east, and other residents have taken shelter in Lillooet to the north.

"At the First Nation band office, the fire was a wall about three, four feet high coming up to the fence line. I drove through town and it was just smoke, flames, the wires were down," Polderman said.

Video captured by residents rushing out of town show numerous structures on fire in every direction.

Later Wednesday night, residents of another 87 properties to the north of Lytton were ordered to leave home as well.

What terrible news. There are several fires happening in northern California right now that have resulted in community evacuations. In those areas the fires are advancing to the tune of square miles every few hours. A lot of the fire departments are really worried about Fourth of July celebrations on Sunday night when people tend to shoot off illegal fireworks and apparently are not concerned about starting fires. Every city and town is dreading the weekend and our fire season hasn't even officially started yet.

An investigation into the cause and human cost of a devastating wildfire in Lytton, B.C., appeared ready to begin Saturday, as RCMP forensic teams arrived at the village.

Police and the BC Coroners Service had not previously been able to access the fire-ravaged community due to toxic smoke and other hazards on site.

Global News has learned heavy machinery, a mobile command centre and a drone were also being deployed to the community to aid in the investigation.

A CN Rail command centre was also deployed to Boston Bar.

That is sad. I hope your fire season ends soon. In California, our fire season peaks in September and October, I believe. We sure have along way to go. The Dixie Fire is now the largest single fire in the state's history and it is still burning and growing rapidly with more towns in the area being threatened, after the destruction of the towns of Greenville and Canyondam, just south of Lake Almanor. The last I heard containment was only 21%, down from 35% a couple of days ago.

Nope. Just all of the electric cars charging the air. Expect much more cloudless lightning and ball lightning like I have personally seen in Texas. Everything comes in cycles. It is just time now for the USA Desert Southwest and British Columbia to swap climates.

Haha! I appreciate you pointing that out. I like to try and be funny while I make a point.

I went to Washington and British Columbia on my honeymoon in 1995 and there I learned about real rainforests. I have never felt before that if I made a wrong turn walking through a forest I might not be coming back. Lol

Here’s to motorcycling in Canada someday while singing along to my favorite band Rush in my head, eh!
