I have gone through about three seats in six months.
Do you guys have any suggestions on a harder more durable seat?
    thanks

    Joe

The less helpful but funny comment was from one of my riding buddies, he said to me "keep your legs out from under the table!"

Joe - they all seem to do that sooner or later. I think that part of it is because they are a single moulded unit rather than a conventional base, foam and cover. The simple answer is probably just get a Blackbird seat and be done - you could probably have had two by now for the 3 you have bought! That said I picked up a year or so back two Blackbird seat covers (for their seats) - they had not started making them again and this was the closest I could come to one. The cover would definitely fit a OEM seat and in fact I am sure you could also have it recovered by other guys as well if you are happy with the comfort factor. Seat Concepts would do a good job I am sure if you sent them the seat as would Meyer, Corbin, and Kahedo.

    Thanks Dom.
The Blackbird seat looks fantastic, it is the first time i have seen them.
The standard seat has no comfort but I like the firmness to seat bounce over obstacles.

Joe, my collection looks worse than yours I use the 2010 low seat and quite like it but durability sucks and they have just jumped from $170 > $300 So it's probably time to bite the bullet on a BB. PM if you go down that track and we could share freight.

I bought the Blackbird seat. Very nice seat. If you want I do have a 2009 and a 2010 seat that are in really good condition that I would part with.

My English Bull Dog Harley and my Pitbull Crocker love there stock seat. They still have bits of it left. Its nice to have dogs of this type who are able to share chewy toys. Thats all the hell the stock seat is good for. Go get a Blackbird seat and be done with it.

You say the stock one's just jumped from 170.00 to 300.00 at the BMW dealers or what? how about Fleabay? What a rip off for a dog toy that lasts a few rides in your case. Figures BMW would raise the prices if that's really the case. The bikes are approaching the 7 year old mark now and by Law they can stop production of available spare parts anytime now if they want. Not saying parts won't be available. I'm sure they will be but the price can be whatever they want for it, they can say its out of stock or backordered and tell you sorry at any time now. You'll have to find whats on the shelf and thats the way it will probably be if they want. Its not like they would go out of there way anymore for such an obscure model that doesn't make them any money unless they double the prices. Screw the dealers.

Go to the aftermarket.. get a Blackbird seat, its much better long term quality superior product anyway and it can be recovered again easily with a seat cover for about 35 bucks.

    Joe,

    Wow its true. What next??

Just checked Bikebandit and A&S BMW both for "OEM BMW" bench seats, either the 1" low or standard higher version seats are now priced at $304.51. The retail price actually even higher than that by about $30.00. Thats an expensive propostion for something that wears out in less than 2 months. You don't ride everyday do you? I'd say they are all dry rotted from piss poor design in the first place and now just sitting on the BMW shelfs for so long. That they have to pay for that rent space some how, so they nearly doubled the price. I guess BMW didn't know we got Blackbird Racing, (contact Mattia Morretti) to start re-making these seats last year again because we real owners who had this problem all along convinced them there was a need for a quality seat out here in the real world. That makes the relative price for the superior design of the conventional and repairable "Blackbird Racing" seats that much more of a bargain now. They cost about that much and are ten times the quality and the profile is easier on your ass. Not like sitting on a plank of wood.

Go for it. It will last for years unless you coat it with bacon fat and feed it to some hungry bears or something.

They must be such high sellers at BMW nowadays to all the G450X collectors that build museum bikes that they can get double nearly for them or the price wouldn't have gone up from $170.00 previously. I'd bet even the UV light in a static museum setting would make them crack and split.

Man the price of my dogs, Harley and Crockers knockoff chewy toys just doubled. I hate when that happens.

Hopefully BMW has been replacing these seats under parts warranty? Does not help that they are a shyte design and product in the first place, probably being made cheaply in China for BMW. Blackbird is the way to go though.

I ride once a week and it is a solid ten hours on my steel steed all tight stuff.
I have notified the dealer but its apparently my riding style?
I go through a ktm seat once a year.
I will be placing a order soon on the blackbird but for now I got to fix my truck, some pelican ran into it.
I will definitely take you up on your offer thanks Campbell.
Thanks for all the great advice guys.

    You bet. Joe

A funny bird is the Pelican his beak holds more than his Belly can.

What was yours holding, when he bit it into your truck, did he bite off more than he could chew or what?
